Hi! I’m Amanda. I’m, 12 years old and I play the
guitar in my family’s Bluegrass band. When I was about 7 or 8, my parents bought
me a used mandolin for Christmas. Chuck taught me some chords and
how to change chords while singing. I learned several songs and my mom strummed
the guitar with me while I sang and strummed the mandolin (I didn’t chop, I just
used two fingers).
I stuck with the mandolin for 3 or 4 years. Then, when I was just messin’ around with my mom’s Martin, Chuck told me that I should play the guitar, instead of the mandolin.
So, I practiced making chord transitions and strumming for a little while on
my mom’s old Yamaha. I got pretty good at the guitar, so I decided to get my
own. I chose my 000-16GT Gloss Top Auditorium Martin Guitar, which I am playing
presently. It has a fantastic sound and tone to it.
I absolutely love playin’ and pickin’ the guitar, but every now and then, I’ll pick up the mandolin and chop on it (I finally learned how to chop!).
I have learned many songs on the guitar, including: Dueling Banjos, Cripple Creek, Wildwood Flower, Whiskey Before Breakfast, and Beaumont Rag. I also take breaks on songs that we sing.
By the way... you may have noticed that on our new picture on the home page that I'm not wearing glasses. I now have contacts!
